What is Between The Sticks?
Between The Sticks is a competitive goalkeeper league designed exclusively for young goalkeepers who want to challenge themselves and develop their skills in a fast-paced competitive environment.
Unlike traditional grassroots football, the focus is entirely on goalkeeper performance, with structured matches, competitions and recognition for standout performances.
Who can take part?
Between The Sticks is open to young goalkeepers of all abilities who want to compete and improve.
The league welcomes players currently playing for grassroots clubs as well as goalkeepers who simply enjoy playing in goal.
Age groups will be organised to ensure fair and competitive matches.
When does the league start?
The first Between The Sticks league series will begin on:
Tuesday 2nd June In Blackburn
Sessions will run every Tuesday from 6:45pm – 7:45pm for a 10-week league series, followed by a BTS Finals Day where the top goalkeepers compete for prizes.
What happens at the taster session?
The BTS taster session gives goalkeepers the opportunity to experience the format before the league begins.
During the session goalkeepers will:
• Try the BTS match format
• Take part in fun goalkeeper challenges
• Meet the BTS team
• Learn how the league works
Parents will also be able to ask questions and learn more about the league structure.
What does the sign-on fee include?
The £50 sign-on fee is paid once when a goalkeeper joins Between The Sticks.
This includes:
• Official Stanno goalkeeper kit
• BTS Goalkeeper gloves
Once a goalkeeper has signed on, they become an Official BTS Goalkeeper and will not need to pay the sign-on fee again for future league series.
How much does the league cost?
The league series fee is £100.
This can be:
• Paid in full
• Split across 2 / 3 / 4 payments
This works out at just £10 per session.
The league fee includes:
• Participation in the full 10-week league series
• Weekly highlight footage featuring your goalkeeper
• Entry into all side competitions and challenges
• Participation in BTS Finals Day
• End-of-series awards
What is a Founder Goalkeeper?
Goalkeepers who join Series 1 will become the official Founder Goalkeepers of Between The Sticks.
Each founder player will receive their own BTS Goalkeeper Profile on the website featuring:
• Player photo
• Founder Member badge
• Grassroots club
• Series stats
These profiles will remain permanently on the BTS website as part of the Founder Goalkeeper Wall.
What should goalkeepers bring to a taster session?
Goalkeepers should bring:
• Sports kit suitable for football
• Goalkeeper gloves
• A drink
All players will receive their official BTS kit once they sign on.
How competitive is the league?
Between The Sticks is designed to be competitive but enjoyable.
The format encourages goalkeepers to challenge themselves, improve their skills and experience a different type of football competition where goalkeepers are the focus of the game.
Are places limited?
Yes.
Between The Sticks is a limited-availability league designed to maintain quality and ensure every goalkeeper gets plenty of playing time.
Spaces for Series 1 are limited.
