SERIES RULES/INFO – Between The Sticks

The following rules apply to all Between The Sticks goalkeeper competitions.
Specific league formats, venues, dates and prize structures will be confirmed with each series.

1. Objective

The objective of each game is simple:
outscore your opponent while defending your own goal.

Goalkeepers compete head-to-head in a structured goalkeeper wars–style format, with each participant having the opportunity to score and defend.

2. Match Format

  • Games are played one vs one between goalkeepers

  • Each game is played within a defined time or shot limit (confirmed per series)

  • Both goalkeepers alternate attacking and defending

  • Points are awarded for wins and draws, contributing to the overall league table

3. Scoring

  • Goals scored during attacking phases count toward your total

  • Goals conceded count against you

  • Final results are determined by goals scored and goals conceded

4. Wins, Draws & Losses

  • A win is awarded to the goalkeeper with the higher score

  • A draw is recorded if scores are level at the end of the game

  • A loss is recorded if the opponent scores more goals

Points allocation will be confirmed with each series.

5. Finals Day

  • Each series concludes with a Finals Day

  • The top-performing goalkeepers qualify for semi-finals, followed by a final

  • Finals Day is designed to create a competitive, high-pressure environment and a clear series winner

Qualification criteria will be confirmed with each series.

6. Media & Highlights

  • All matches are recorded

  • Weekly highlight content is produced throughout each series

  • Highlights may include saves, goals and key moments

Content is used to celebrate performance and enhance the competition experience.

7. Conduct & Fair Play

  • All games are officiated by a referee

  • Goalkeepers must respect match officials, opponents and organisers

  • Unsporting behaviour, time-wasting or dissent may result in warnings or sanctions

Between The Sticks is built on respect for the position and the competition.

8. Equipment

  • Goalkeepers must wear appropriate goalkeeper gloves and footwear

  • Shin pads are recommended

  • Official BTS goalkeeper tops are provided as part of the competition

9. League Table

  • Results contribute to a live league table hosted on the Between The Sticks website

  • League tables display:
    Wins (W), Draws (D), Losses (L), Goals Scored (GS), Goals Conceded (GC) and Points (PTS)

10. Awards Night

  • Each series will be followed by an awards night

  • The date and details of the awards night will be confirmed at a later stage

11. Decisions

  • The referee’s decision is final

  • Any issues or disputes should be raised respectfully with the event organiser

12. Amendments

Between The Sticks reserves the right to amend game rules where required to ensure fairness, safety and the smooth running of competitions.

Any changes will be communicated clearly before play begins.
